During my time at AUK, I was responsible for producing one show each semester, providing a platform for students to showcase their artistic abilities. For each production, I worked with 30 to 40 students across acting, stage management, and design to bring the show to fruition, often within a very limited production budget. For most of the students, this was their first experience working on a play. All aspects of the production, including design and management, were undertaken by students, with me providing guidance and preparation over the course of several weeks.
Every other semester, we selected a play that the students themselves were interested in working on. The idea for the Spring 2024 production emerged from conversations I had with students about their interest in performing a musical, as well as their desire to adapt an animated film many of them enjoyed during childhood. We discussed this idea within the department, and my wonderful colleague, Kinga Masternak, directed the music for the production.
