As my first production at AUK, I chose Translations by Brian Friel. I specifically chose this play considering the play’s deep understanding of language exchanges in a post-colonial world. This play has produced new and deep meaning for the students working on the show as they are living in the context of a diverse American university in the Global South every day and are faced with the challenges of a nation in a post-colonial era.
During my time at AUK, I was responsible for producing one show each semester, providing a platform for students to showcase their artistic abilities. For each production, I worked with 30 to 40 students across acting, stage management, and design to bring the show to fruition, often within a very limited production budget. For most of the students, this was their first experience working on a play. All aspects of the production, including design and management, were undertaken by students, with me providing guidance and preparation over the course of several weeks.
