Lost in the Ocean Waves is a play about a specific time and place in Iran’s history that was a milestone in defining the stature and identity of Iran today. The play takes place in the 1960’s city of Abadan, where the first oil refineries were constructed by the British, and later became the most important oil extraction site in Iran. The play features five characters coming from different walks of life, ages, and ambitions. We see each of their stories and how their lives were influenced by the events that took place in those years— changing the paths of their lives and leaving them to adjust and re-center themselves in the new order of things. We see them each as they narrate their stories, as they tell and retell their stories; digging deep in their memories and trying to remember how things happened, what actually happened, and what they had wished would happen.
